Annual Report 2022-23

During fiscal year 2022-23, the Clothing Connection switched from a forms-only model to a forms-and-closet model. This effort involved setting up Clothing Connection closets at most of Salem's schools, from the Early Childhood Center through Salem High School, offering clothes, outerwear and, in many cases, toiletries. This new structure allows school partners to access clothes as soon as children have a need, and also allows children and caregivers to see/feel/try on clothes to make sure they are a good fit. At the high school, this model also involved a weekly “Clothes and Food Pantry” held in conjunction with the Salem Pantry, where SHS students could “shop” for clothes and toiletries from our SHS closet. All school partners have access to form-based requesting for items children need that aren't in the school closets. At the end of the school year, the Clothing Connection set up a summer-program closet at Bates Elementary, and through a partnership with staff at SPS summer programs made sure all sites had access to clothing. This school year, we also added a Purchasing Chair and made the decision to split the presidential role into two parts, one co-president overseeing all clothing operations, one co-president overseeing fundraising (including grants) and outreach.
